Short and Long Term Effects of Crime

We watched a Law & Order Episode about a rape victim named Harper. Her perpetrator was a power control rapist which means he wasn't interested in physically hurting her but more interested in the sense of sexual control and masculinity. Short term emotional effects include constantly feeling unsafe, guilt, shame, sexual problems, relationship issues, anger and depression. The victim will close themselves out from family, friends, work etc. Often they hate having to repeatedly talk to police and special services about the incident because it brings up all the original emotional pains and flashbacks. Long term effects are more personality wise. They never want to think about the event as it brings up too many flashbacks. Harper in the show went from being a very colorful person with a vibrant house and then six months later she had a plain apartment and wore a grey pants suit. This is just an example of how she became less herself because of the emotional trauma. They're relationships tend to take a turn for the worse as they are less trusting of men and just people in general.

The story I'm looking at is a stabbing of three high school boys in Scarborough. One of them is in critical condition and the others are in stable condition in the hospital. The short term effects of this are physical instability, trust issues with other acquaintances and general mental problems. Long term can be worse as it could've caused lifelong physical disabilities, mental instability which is also a part of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. With any violent crime, finding the perpetrator as soon as possible will help the recovering victim a lot just by knowing he/she will face an appropriate sentence.
