Social Media Good or Bad for Courts? (No wejit for me)

Courts in Canada are very different than american courts mostly because of the fact that American courts allow cameras and media coverage inside the court room while Canadian court prohibits it. In terms of Canadian courts, I do not believe that any source of social media should be allowed in any trial as evidence if it is not allowed to be in court in the first place. Social media can be very deceiving because often times stories are created for the purpose of controversy. It doesn't mean it going to be truthful or reliable which is why any court case shouldn't allow it to be used as evidence. The next point is that if the media gets a hold of an exciting case then it will go around on the media. Courts need to try and prevent this because if the story becomes more and more fake as time goes by then citizens such as jury member can be wrongly influenced. In a case like Casey Anthony, so much media coverage had been spread around that the state of Florida needed to find jury members from other states to assure that their ideas on the case hadn't been influenced. This is only my opinion on Canadian courts because we have laws that prohibit any cameras or media inside a courtroom. For American courts it is very different. They allow all media coverage and film cameras inside of a court session. With that being the case then it allows the public to be involved with what happens in each court case. The news about it always tends to be falsified just a little bit which can create impartial viewers. Having a ton of people all over the state knowing about a case and being influenced to one side or another can create a problem when it effects someone on the jury who isn't supposed to have a pre-determined decision on the matter. So in total I think that media coverage on court cases is not good for the court system as it can create false news and potentially ruin the case.
