Class and crime

Within reality tv shows and media there are a lot of different stereotypes used. When it comes to violence, the usual stereotype is a black male from a poor neighborhood or a woman in a bad relationship with a violent guy. As for the women portrayed in a show like bling ring, the girl was attractive and came from a wealthy family and that is why she turned to drugs instead of violence. In the documentary for the bloods and crips they did not show everything going on in the "hood". Of course they show all these black males who are supposed to be tough guys and fighting for their neighborhood but they never show the younger teens who are of all races and not your typical gang member. They don't display these people because they won't fit the proper idea of a gangster developed by the consumer. If the show doesn't have fitting stereotypes then the audience won't be able to "relate" because the images of the characters don't fit what they remember. This documentary used the image of poor, younger men because they have a perfect affiliation to the gang life style. They need to improve their situation from their awful background and they use crime to push them selves forward. The show couldn't have any other class of people because it wouldn't fit the world's image of a gangster.
